AUTHOR'S NOTE: I was perusing fanfiction.net and came across this drabble that was sort of a response to a challenge, and decided to respond to the challenge. The rules: Pick a character, pairing, or fandom of your choice. 2. Put your music player on shuffle. 3. Write a drabble about the song that plays. Your time limit is based on the song, and when it's done, the drabble is finished.
1. Same Mistakes - Eric Hutchinson
Cleveland is cold in December and you forgot to bring her gloves. Blue eyes twinkle at you from across the car, refelcted in the rearview mirror, and you can only grin recklessly back. JJ turns her head and the moment is gone and you wonder if there ever really was a moment. They're might have been, a long time ago, but now, now everything is all about the baby and about Will.
You know she pulled the wool over your eyes, and you didn't even see it coming. She's just so innocent that all you could see was her sweet smile and her smiling eyes.
You've always made those kinds of mistakes, and you'll keep making them, because she keeps smiling and you keep smiling back.
2. Wait, Wait, Wait - The Format
You don't want to know that the end is coming. You'd rather be surprised when it all comes down to graves and funerals. You don't want to know because somehow you won't believe it if someone spoils it for you.
So, when the end comes, it shocks the hell out of you. It's hot and slicing and pure terror and you know that this is it. You regret not letting anyone tell you about how this would happen. But you have to deal with the consequences.
One of them is watching JJ watch you, as you slowly sink into the abyss that waits for you in this firey inferno. You get some sastifaction - as his arms wrap around her - that your voice, your scream, is the last sound she's going to hear from you, and your face - this way - is going to be the last thing she sees of you.
3. Giving Up - Silverstein
You used to be the bright spot in her day, you think bitterly, as she frowns at your outstrechted hand. "It's only coffee" you want to say, but it's not only coffee. It's possibilities and reminders and broken promises wrapped up in the smell of intoxicating coffee, presented in a cardboard cup with a handy "heat-blocker."
JJ is giving up on you, you can feel it in the air and see the remants of your friendship scattered along the side of the hallways - it's just memories now. And JJ's promises - the whispered ones - were just lies and now, you finally realize it.
Next time she tells you "I love you" you don't think you'll be able to fool yourself into saying it back. If she's giving up, you're going to give up too.
It's only fair.
4. Overdue - The Get Up Kids
It's been - what? seven years - since you've last seen her and she still looks the same.
But it's been to long and when she looks at you with those eyes, older and sadder than you've ever seen them, and she's not the same.
You walked out on a limb for her and all it got you was nowhere, with nothing, with no one. It left you stranded all by yourself while she san off with him.
And now she's back and a precarious little girl is dangling off her arm and he's nowhere in sight. She says she wants her job back, and nothing else is her implied statement.
She might not be here for you, but if she is, she's too late.
Even if you spent those seven years waiting for her.
4. I'm Ready - Jack's Mannequin
You finally know how to make her yours, and you're finally ready to admit how much you love her.
Except you're too late and she's getting away from you, speeding away actually, with him in the passenger seat.
The words are on the tip of your tounge and you're so close to screaming them at the top of your lungs, from the top of a building, from the top of a moutian - if it's necessary.
You're finally ready, and she's not. She's not ready for this and even if she kisses you softly and whispers it gently, it still stings.
Her car is still flying down the street and you're still ready to tell her everything she's ever wanted to hear, everything you never said before, except that she got tired of waiting around for you.
You'll be ready next time she comes back.
6. Nowhere Man - The Beatles
You feel like a nobody since you resigned from the BAU. You have no future plans, no future goals, no future possibilites.
Since you resigned from the BAU, the whole world fell at your feet and for once, no one is around to tell you what to do with it. You have no one looking over your shoulder and while it should feel liberating...it's not.
You're a nowhere man, with no one to go home to and no one to love. She's a million miles away - so you're told - and you're stuck in nowhere land listening to the sound of your breathing, wishing you were somewhere else.
7. Forget Myself - Third Eye Blind
You can't forget saphhire eyes.
It's strange, because you can't remember anything else, like your name or your birthday, or why all these people crowd around your bed and expect you to suddenly remember the things you can't. They ask you your mother's name and your father's date of death, but you can't remember. You don't know who these people are - because, even if they don't seem to understand, you can't remember.
You only remember saphhire eyes. When you say it out loud, the blonde gasps and turns around, but her eyes aren't saphhire, and even if some part of you wants to say that saphhire eyes has blonde hair, this woman isn't her.
You close your eyes and saphhire eyes float through time and space and it makes it okay that you can't remember your name and or anything about yourself. But you never see the saphhire eyes in real life.
Saphhire eyes are all you can't forget.
You wish you could remember something else.
8. Into The Fire - Thirteen Senses
She's like fire: mesmorizing and captivating. As a child, you loved how easily fire possessed everything around it, how easily is consumed attention and power and life. It's almost depressing, but you could never get enough of it.
That's why she reminds you of fire, because she consumes you and you can never get enough of her. You need to see the fire raging, and the need to do so is almost overwhelming.
She's like fire, with her clear crystal gaze and her quiet intensity. She's like fire because when you reach out to touch her, it burns your skin, scarring you forever.
She's like fire: mesmorizing and captivating. She's like fire because she burns you alive and consumes you without a second thought.
You like the feel of the burn.
9. Like A Man Possessed - The Get Up Kids
You tear through the wreckage, rummage through the burning piles, because somewhere under there someone is dying and you're the only hope this time. It's all falling on your shoulders this time and you take on a persona of someone you don't know.
You feel like you have superhuman strength, the way you force your aching muscles to lift smoldering car doors and random car pieces. You're moving through the small piles of ash in a stealthy manner, one goal in mind.
You're like a man possessed and nothing will deter you from saving her.
You couldn't save her before, when she needed to be saved the first time, so you're going to save her now, even if Morgan is holding you back, even if Hotch is bleeding on the ground, even if Garcia is screaming your name over and over again.
You're going to save her, because even though she's already gone, you can't seem to force yourself to do anything else.
10. My Same - Adele
You're complete opposites: night and day.
She's too easy going, forgives too easily.
You're too stubborn and you hold grudges for years
She's sensitive and caring
You're tough skinned and "bad ass"
She's sugar, with a sugar sweet smile.
You're spice, and a "go ahead, make my day" frown.
It's a perfect fit.

And I feel bad. I blame my guitar playing girlfriend over in the corner. BUT I'm going to try again soon.
And I have to tell you that, "I'm Ready" is on my Emily/JJ fan mix. Yes, I have a fan mix. haha.
September 23 2008, 02:37:48 UTC 3 years ago
September 23 2008, 03:29:38 UTC 3 years ago
Let's see. Fan Mix: Let This Go by Paramore, which applies to a post Will/JJ Emily. I'm Ready by Jack's Mannequin, which applies to a post Will/JJ JJ. Break It Off by Tegan and Sara, which is a JJ breaking up with Emily for Will song. Soil, Soil by Tegan and Sara, which is a depressed post Will/JJ Emily. And there's a few more that I can't remember and my notebook is all the way across the room. haha.
September 23 2008, 03:36:22 UTC 3 years ago
now i want to make a fan mix. i'm jealous.
September 23 2008, 03:40:02 UTC 3 years ago
You should do it! Since it's you, it would of course own all other fan mixes and everyone would squee all over you. (Including me, but in a way that sounds less gross. I would fan girl all over you, in a very dignified way.)
September 23 2008, 03:43:25 UTC 3 years ago
ha! it would probably NEVER own fanmix's. i'm almost pathetically awful at that thing, even though all my fics are based on songs - don't tell anyone that by the way, i'm hoping people think i'm a genius.
squee, huh? even you?
(i've been told "squee" - ing is NEVER dignified, but for you...it might work.)
September 23 2008, 03:46:10 UTC 3 years ago
I'll practice, that way my Squee can be eloquent and as non-fourteen year old girl as possible. Because no one likes a sloppy, squeeing fourteen year old. Ick!
(I'm hoping this comment does not imply that I'm fourteen, because that is just not true!)
September 23 2008, 03:49:38 UTC 3 years ago
and no, i didn't get the impression you were a fourteen year old girl, for which i am grateful, cause then i would feel like a total creep and awkward and i might lose sleep. and now, i'm completely reassured, and overjoyed that you're going to work on your squee. i look forward to it.
September 23 2008, 03:51:49 UTC 3 years ago
Thank goodness! That would be bad. I didn't even like fourteen year old girls when I was one. Well...okay, I did like fourteen year old girls, but because they were girls, not because they were fourteen...and now this sentence is awkward and should end now.
Jee..why would you feel like a creep? We're just having a polite, friendly conversation. ;)
September 23 2008, 03:54:05 UTC 3 years ago
i was totally in love with fourteen year old girls...when i was twelve. and yeah, that sentence was reaching awkward potential, but that's half the fun i say.
all i can say is: hahahahaha
